The Grade 9 final exam Science and Technology paper

The Grade 9 final exam paper in Science and Technology is set to CDC’s Specification Grid 2078, Grade 9 Science and Technology: 75 marks in 3 hours, 40 questions in four sections, and every question compulsory. Each unit has its share of the marks, set by how long it is taught, and the grid plans each unit’s questions: which section and which level each one is. The levels are remembering a fact (knowledge), explaining it (understanding), using it in a new situation (application), and analyzing, judging or creating (higher ability).

The papers here are new, written by us to the same grid: each section’s and each unit group’s total exactly as in the grid, and each unit’s questions in the sections and at the levels of CDC’s sample item plan. A 2- or 4-mark question earns one mark for each point expected, so its marking scheme lists exactly that many points.

The level columns give the number of questions at each level; the last row, the marks at each level.

Marks for each unit

K, U, A, H: each unit’s marks at each level (knowledge, understanding, application, higher ability) in CDC’s sample item plan, which every paper follows. The plan gives some units up to 2 marks more or fewer than their share in the Marks column, as the grid allows within a group; the groups’ totals are fixed.
