How the words were chosen
From the Nepali-medium textbooks of Grades 1 to 12: every word of every lesson, matched to its entry in the Nepali Brihat Shabdakosh, with its endings taken off (कलमहरूलाई is कलम, गरेको is गर्नु).
A word belongs to the grade where a Nepali book teaches it (in its word meanings, शब्दार्थ, or vocabulary exercises, शब्दभण्डार), or else the grade by which the books every student reads have used it more than once. The key words of a grade are the ones taught, then the most widely used.
Left out: names, numbers, words borrowed from English, words for grammar, science and math words (those are in Science and Math in Nepali), and words found only in elective subjects.
The meanings are our own, written for students: every word has an English word and a short Nepali meaning written for this site. The dictionary was used to find each word and its senses, not copied.
The game starts each word at its grade, and then learns from everyone’s answers how hard it really is.
