The Giant Periodic Table

← All Exhibits

Everything around you is built from about 118 elements, and this periodic table, about 13 feet (4 meters) long, arranges all of them. Each element is a cube you can turn, with information about the element on all six faces.

Elements in the same column behave in similar ways; each row adds a new shell of electrons. The table is so orderly that chemists once predicted missing elements, and their properties, before anyone had found them.

Find the four elements that make up most of your body: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen. Then pick up a cube and turn it to see what each of its six faces tells you.
