Tangram Puzzle
← All Exhibits
This ancient puzzle uses just seven flat geometric pieces — triangles, a square, and a parallelogram — that can be rearranged into thousands of different recognizable pictures, from animals to people to abstract shapes.
Come try to rebuild the square — then try a goose instead.
Additional Information
All seven tangram pieces always fit together to reform one perfect large square, no matter how many other pictures they’re rearranged into first.
The tangram originated in China, and its name most likely came from 19th-century Western traders who brought it back from Chinese ports.
Because the seven pieces can combine in so many ways, tangram puzzle books have been published cataloguing many thousands of distinct picture solutions.
