Magnetism
Magnetic Lines of Force
← All Exhibits
The nails are pulled toward the central magnet and line up roughly along the direction of its magnetic field. Their arrangement gives a visible clue to the otherwise invisible magnetic field lines, sometimes called lines of force.
The nails themselves also become temporarily magnetized, helping them align with the field.
