Woods of Nepal

← All Exhibits

This display gathers wood samples from trees native to Nepal, showing how grain, color, and density can vary dramatically from one species to the next.

Additional Information

Nepal’s dramatic range of elevation, from tropical lowlands to Himalayan foothills, supports an unusually wide variety of native tree species in a small area.

Wood density and grain pattern directly affect what a timber is best used for — from fine furniture to heavy construction beams.

Many of Nepal’s native hardwoods, like sal (Shorea robusta), have been used in traditional construction and craft for centuries.
