The Kaleidoscope
← All Exhibits
A kaleidoscope creates beautiful repeating patterns using multiple reflections. Small colored shapes are reflected again and again between mirrors, turning simple pieces into intricate designs.
These three kaleidoscopes use different mirror arrangements. Changing the angle by rotating the knob changes the patterns you see.
The word “kaleidoscope” comes from Greek for “observer of beautiful forms.”
Look through each one and compare the patterns. Shine light on the patterned disk for even better results.
