Geodes

← All Exhibits

From the outside a geode looks like a plain, round rock. Break it open and it is hollow, lined with crystals.

It began as a hollow space in rock. Over thousands of years, water carrying dissolved minerals seeped in, and the minerals slowly built up as crystals, growing inward from the walls.

Look inside. Do the crystals get bigger toward the middle?
