Shrimp Tank with a Sandfall
← All Exhibits Book a Visit
The small shrimp in this tank are crustaceans, relatives of crabs and lobsters. They wear their skeleton on the outside and must shed it (molt) to grow.
The “sandfall” is sand lifted by rising air bubbles and poured down the rocks like a waterfall. The same kind of air-lift pump moves water through many aquariums.
Watch a shrimp for a minute. What is it doing with its tiny front legs? Do you see baby shrimplets in this tank? Use the lens nearby to check them out.
