40, 35, 30, 30, 25, 20, 25, 30, 35, 30,
20, 25, 30, 25, 35, 25, 40, 25, 40, 30,
25, 35, 30, 35, 35, 25, 30, 35, 30, 30

Answer
Height (X, cm) f fX cf
10 1 10 1
20 5 100 6
25 10 250 16
30 12 360 28
35 8 280 36
40 4 160 40
N = 40 ∑fX=1160 \sum fX = 1160

Mean: X‾=116040= \overline{X} = \frac{1160}{40} = 29 cm.

Median: the (40+12) \left(\frac{40 + 1}{2}\right) th item = 20.5th item. Items 17 to 28 are 30, so the 20th and 21st are both 30: Md=30 M_d = 30 cm.

(The mode is 30 cm too, with 12 plants. The mean is a little lower, 29 cm, because the one 10 cm seedling pulls it down.)
