The Area Illusion
← All Exhibits
Rearrange these pieces and a small square seems to appear or disappear. Nothing has actually been created or lost — the trick is in the geometry. The pieces do not form exactly the same large shape in both arrangements; tiny changes in angles and alignment create a small difference in total area.
This is a classic dissection paradox, showing how easily our eyes can overlook small geometric differences.
