Square Wheels

← All Exhibits

Square wheels can roll smoothly, on the right road.

This road is a row of curved bumps with exactly the right shape (upside-down catenaries, the curve a hanging chain makes). As each square wheel rolls over a bump, its center stays at the same height, so the ride is smooth.

Roll the cart slowly and watch the center of a wheel. Does it go up and down?
