Out in the world
Moon illusion
Is the Moon bigger near the horizon than high in the sky?
No: measure it with your thumb at arm’s length and it’s the same size.
Why? No one is completely sure. Near the horizon, the Moon is next to hills and buildings and the sky seems farther away, so your brain makes the Moon look bigger.
