The rules
- A positive statement takes a negative tag, and a negative statement takes a positive tag: Pokhara is beautiful, isn’t it?
- The tag repeats the statement’s auxiliary or modal verb, or uses do, does or did when there is none: You play chess, don’t you?
- The tag always uses a pronoun for the subject, with they for everyone or nobody and it for this, that or nothing: Everyone enjoyed the trip, didn’t they?
- Words like never, hardly, nobody, nothing and little make a statement negative, so its tag is positive: She never eats meat, does she?
- With there is or there are, the tag repeats there: There is a lab here, isn’t there?
- I am takes aren’t I, and let’s takes shall we: Let’s go to the park, shall we?
- An imperative takes will you or won’t you, and a negative imperative takes will you: Don’t be late, will you?
