String Prism

This string artwork shows white light entering a prism and spreading into a spectrum of colours. The prism bends different wavelengths of light by slightly different amounts, separating the light into colours from red to violet. This process is called dispersion.

This artwork is a simplified representation. In reality, the colours form a continuous spectrum rather than a few distinct bands.
